CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL SCHOOLS AND CHOIRS THAT HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO PERFORM IN 2009.  SCHOOLS THAT WERE CHOSEN DEMONSTRATED THE FOLLOWING:  GOOD MICROPHONE TECHNIQUE, QUALITY LITERATURE INCLUDING SWING AND IMPROVISATION, BALANCE AND BLEND, QUALITY SOLOS, GOOD SENSE OF TIME, AND RHYTHM.

We are proud to announce the third annual Best of Iowa Jazz Choir Showcase to be held at Dallas Center-Grimes High School on Tuesday, March 31st, 2009.

This unique performance opportunity has been developed and planned by a committee of directors representing all four class sizes recognized by the IHSMA and is designed to function as our own version of the Iowa Jazz Championships.  In just two years it has become the largest single jazz choir competition in Iowa.

We strongly believe that the BIJCS will be a point of growth for jazz choirs in Iowa and will give these groups a great learning environment in a festival setting.  With outstanding judging, your singers will have the opportunity to perform for judges that truly understand the art of vocal jazz.   And to top it off the performance venue is a state of the art, 650-seat auditorium with professional sound provided by Comprehensive Sound Services.

Selection of Participants: 7 choirs from each of the 4 IHSMA classifications will be selected by video audition (more may be added to a classification if deemed appropriate by the selection committee).  All choirs wanting to be invited to the Best of Iowa Jazz Choir Showcase will need to submit a video of a performance or rehearsal along with a brief resume of the group that includes contest ratings, festivals attended and other pertinent information about the group.   A panel of unbiased judges will select the choirs and invitations will be posted and sent to those selected on Monday, March 9th.
