Musical

Every other fall the music department comes together with the theatre and prepares a musical.  We believe strongly in the big cast, big crew, big set, big crowd philosophy that makes these shows a great experience for many students and families in our district.

Jazz Choir

 The jazz choirs at DC-G are a long standing part of the program dating back to the early 1990s.  The audition process is fairly rigorous with students auditioning together at the end of the school year.  Last year nearly 90 students auditioned for 2 competitive jazz choirs and 1 non-competitive.  All rehearsals are outside of the school day equal approximately 3 hours of rehearsal weekly.

DC-G offers curricular choirs during the school day.  Our students rehearse every day for one class period, receiving 1 credit every semester for their work.  As the vocal program grows additional choirs will be added to accommodate the needs of the students and our facilities.

The choirs have established themselves as consistent performers at the state level, receiving top scores at state competitions 9 of the last 10 years. 

Show choir

Show Choir is a mixed, auditioned, extra-curricular group of singers and dancers.  Auditions are held in May with music rehearsals beginning in August.  Regular rehearsals are Monday evenings from 6-9pm.  Extra dance camps where students learn and clean choreography are planned for Saturdays in the fall.

Rhythm 'N Red can be seen at various competitions in Iowa for 2010.  Performances include the MS/HS Preview Night, Waukee Invitational, Indianola Jazz Encounter, and FOFA Night.
